Wine
Mount Majura Vineyard Rock Block Tempranillo comes from the estate’s first plantings of Tempranillo, established in 2000 on their Canberra District vineyard.
The Rock Block is grown in short rows on a reef of volcanic rock and limestone. As the name suggests it is among the site’s rockiest patches. The vines are hand harvested.
After several days of pre-ferment maceration, the fruit is wild fermented in hand plunged open vats. Post-ferment maceration follows, then the wine is matured in French oak. It is bottled with only light filtration.
Rock Block Tempranillo is the most fragrant of Mount Majura Vineyard's single site wines. It is produced only in years where the quality allows.
Deep crimson purple, Mount Majura Vineyard Rock Block Tempranillo is rich and plush on the palate with structured, grippy tannins. Cellaring potential is 15 years.
